APMC Student Design Competition will be held during APMC2014 for the first time in the history of APMC. All students in microwave engineering are solicited to challenge the following competitions
Track A : High efficiency GaN amplifier design Track
Track B : Printed circuit board (PCB) bandpass filter design
- Time Schedule
The competition will be held on the 6th November.
Award ceremony will be also held in the Award Banquet on the day.
Measurement time slot will be set to avoid conflict with the oral presentation in the conference.
*Those who had already received the GaN HEMTs for Track A should register again for confirmation.
APMC2014 Steering Committee is accepting offering of supplementary prizes for the Student Design Competition. Please contact below for more detailed information.

Track A : High efficiency GaN amplifier design competition
Frequency : The amplifier should operate at a frequency between 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz.
Output Power : The amplifier should have at least 5W saturated output power.
Transistor : The amplifier should use a Sumitomo Electric Device Innovation's SGNE010MK.
Interface : The amplifier should have 50 ohm female SMA connector interfaces for input and output of signals.
Highest power added efficiency at more than 5W output power will win the competition.
5 SGNE010MKs are provided for the applicants. Participants can also prepare the same device by themselves. Please contact the SEDI's sales representatives.

Track B : Printed circuit board (PCB) bandpass filter design competition
Frequency : The filter should pass through 1.5GHz ± 50MHz signals.
Insertion loss : The filter should have less than 3dB insertion loss over above mentioned frequency range.
Return loss : The filter should have more than 10dB return loss over above mentioned frequency range.
Interface : The filter should have 50 ohm female SMA connector interfaces for input and output of signals.
Rejection : The filter should satisfy rejection characteristics shown below.
⋅ from 1.2GHz to 1.4GHz and 1.6GHz to 1.7GHz : more than 10dB
⋅ from 1.0GHz to 1.2GHz and 1.7GHz to 1.9GHz : more than 20dB
Lowest spurious over 0.5 to 1.2GHz and 1.9 to 3GHz will win the competition.
Any active component or device is NOT allowed to be used.
The measurement will be done with a network analyzer from 0.5GHz to 3GHz with 10MHz resolution.
